Comparing several carriers' rates by hand, re-typing a tracking number onto the order, then answering a customer asking where their parcel is: delivery carries as much paperwork as parcels. This application links Packlink PRO to your sales process, from the quotation through to tracking, without re-typing anything along the way.
Who the application is for
For businesses that ship parcels and use Packlink PRO to compare carriers: online selling, mail-order selling, or shipping from a physical shop. It also suits anyone who sells on a marketplace as well and has to confirm each shipment with a carrier name that marketplace recognises.
What the application does
- Queries Packlink PRO from the quotation using the parcel's real weight and dimensions, and keeps the cheapest service, or the one you have set as mandatory.
- Creates the shipment with Packlink and buys the label automatically when the delivery note is validated, then attaches that label as a PDF to the document.
- Writes the tracking number onto both the transfer and the sales order, without you having to re-type it anywhere.
- Refreshes the status of shipments under way at regular intervals and logs each step in the delivery note's history.
- If you also sell on a marketplace, passes the carrier name and tracking number into the shipping confirmation, using the name mapping that marketplace expects.
- Keeps a log of every call made to Packlink: operation, shipment concerned, duration, result and, when there is one, the error message.
Day to day
- Fill in the weight and dimensions on your product sheets: the rate is calculated from these values, and an item with no weight gives a wrong rate.
- On the quotation, click the button that asks for the rate: the cheapest service, or the one you have chosen, appears straight away.
- Validate the delivery note: the shipment is created with Packlink, the label is attached and the tracking is filled in, with no further action from you.
- Follow the parcel's journey directly in the delivery note's history, and cancel the shipment in one step if it has not been collected yet.
What the application does not do
- It does not create any Packlink PRO account and does not manage that account's balance: you keep your own commercial relationship with Packlink.
- It does not handle returns, disputes or claims relating to a shipment.
- It does not print labels: the PDF document is attached to the delivery note, and printing it is up to you.
Getting started
Before using it, enter your Packlink PRO access key on a dedicated account and test the connection. Then create a delivery method linked to that account, choosing whether or not to make a particular service mandatory. Finally, check that your product sheets carry a real weight and real dimensions: that is what it takes to get, from the very first quotation, a rate that genuinely matches the parcel being shipped.
