Guest houses: bookings and the French tourist tax

Calculating the tourist tax by hand for each guest, finding out at the last minute that two bookings overlap on the same room, not knowing how the month's occupancy rate stands: the daily reality of a French guest house. This application brings together bookings, stays, the tourist tax and an activity dashboard.

Who the application is for

For the owner of a guest house or a small multi-room holiday letting in France, who manages bookings, stays and the tourist tax.

What the application does

  • Schedules bookings per room in a calendar view, refusing two bookings whose dates overlap on the same room.
  • Warns if confirming a booking would exceed the establishment's declared overall capacity, in rooms or in people.
  • Tracks the actual stay (check-in, check-out) and breakfasts taken day by day according to the formula sold.
  • Automatically calculates the tourist tax at check-out, from a fully configurable rate table per accommodation category, the actual number of nights and taxable travellers.
  • Keeps the tourist tax as its own line on the invoice, separate from accommodation and breakfast.
  • Shows a dashboard (occupancy rate, revenue per available room, average length of stay, revenue, tax due) and prints a tourist tax statement over a chosen period.

Day to day

  1. Book a room for the requested dates: a clash with another booking is refused straight away.
  2. Record the check-in, then log each breakfast taken day by day.
  3. At departure, record the check-out: the tourist tax is calculated automatically from the actual nights and taxable travellers.
  4. Generate the invoice: the tourist tax line appears separately from accommodation and breakfast.
  5. Print the period's statement to pass on to your local authority, and check the dashboard to track your activity.

What the application does not do

  • It does not upload the tourist tax statement to a local authority's or third-party platform: it produces an exportable statement, not an automated online filing.
  • It does not sync with online booking platforms: it is neither a channel manager nor an online booking engine.
  • It does not check the official holiday-letting classification or the town hall registration number: these French rules change and are a matter for your local authority.
  • It does not invoice a shared evening meal as a separate service: only breakfast is modelled.
  • The tourist tax rates and the minors' exemption are set by your local authority: these rules change, check them with your authority before relying on them.

Free and full editions

The free edition already carries rooms, overlap-free bookings, stays with check-in and check-out, breakfast tracking and basic invoicing. The full edition installs on top without losing anything, and adds the tourist tax calculation, the dashboard, two printable documents and two automatic reminders.

Getting started

Create your rooms with their capacity and base rate, then enter in the settings the tourist tax rates for each accommodation category according to your local authority's own decision, and check the minors' exemption before your first invoiced check-out.
