A Google Merchant Center feed that stays current

One address to paste in, re-read on every crawl, with the price and stock of the moment.

A Google Merchant Center feed that stays current

A catalogue whose prices or availability no longer match the shop gets a selling account suspended on Google, after a few warnings. An export that someone has to remember to re-upload every week relies on nothing but their own discipline — and that is the most common reason for suspension. This application exposes a permanent feed instead, read on its own by the crawler on every pass, with nobody needing to remember anything.

Who the application is for

For anyone running an online shop who wants to list products on Google Shopping, through a feed that stays current rather than an export to re-upload by hand.

What the application does

  • Gives a single address to paste into Merchant Center: the feed regenerates on demand, with no task to watch and no file to drop.
  • Groups the variants of the same item — colour, size — so Google presents them as a single product rather than as competitors.
  • Uses the site's own price list, tax included or not depending on the shop's setting, rather than the item's base price.
  • Keeps the displayed availability in step with real stock, respecting the sell-when-out-of-stock rule you have set.
  • Protects the feed's address with a regenerable token, so your catalogue and your margins do not wander about at random.
  • Diagnoses the feed before you connect it: how many products would be rejected or diffused poorly, and for which missing field.

Day to day

  1. Turn on the feed in the site's settings: an address is generated, ready to paste into Merchant Center.
  2. Before pasting it, click Diagnose the feed and fix products missing a required or recommended field.
  3. Paste the address into Merchant Center, as a scheduled fetch: Google will now read it on its own.
  4. Set the shipping cost announced in the feed so it matches your checkout page.
  5. If Google rejects a product, diagnose the feed again, then open the address in your browser to check it does return content.

What the application does not do

  • It does not create any Merchant Center account and does not run any campaign: it is a feed, not an advertising platform.
  • It sends nothing to Meta.
  • It does not replace a feed you already use: it provides a more complete one, with no partnership of any kind with Google.

Getting started

Turn on the feed, run the diagnosis first and fill in any missing fields — sales description, brand, Google category, barcode —, set the announced shipping cost so it matches your checkout page, then paste the generated address into Merchant Center.
